Live 5-2-1-0 Playbox How-to Guide
Our partners in Abbotsford, through the support of Live 5-2-1-0 and the City of Abbotsford’s Parks and Recreation Department, launched a new and innovative idea to support kids to Live 5-2-1-0 – the Live 5-2-1-0 Playboxes! In October 2014, three Live 5-2-1-0 Playboxes were installed in three different city parks, all filled with outdoor play equipment such as balls, nets, hula hoops and frisbees, and information and ideas for fun active games to play. Families can access the boxes at any time for free by signing up to receive the access code to unlock the boxes through Abbotsford’s website. The Live 5-2-1-0 Playboxes support kids and families in achieving the recommendations in the Live 5-2-1-0 message by making it easier for families to access free, fun ways to learn new games, get their hands on equipment, and play actively together outside.
There are now Live 5-2-1-0 Playboxes in over 20 different BC communities! Compiling the advice and experience from Playbox Coordinators we have developed a Live 5-2-1-0 Playbox How-To Guide – a helpful tool for communities with existing Playboxes and those interested in potentially installing their first one. The How-To Guide provides important logistical information and also answers to commonly asked questions about this unique, fun initiative.
