Families
Interested in building healthier habits in your family? That’s great!
Healthy eating, physical activity, and limited screen time are important for everyones physical and mental health. They are especially important for kids! When children develop healthy habits early on, they are more likely to keep those habits and they grow. Live 5-2-1-0 is a message with four goals children can work towards every day, and that parents and families can support and encourage.
What can your family do?
- Take the Live 5-2-1-0 Pledge and support and encourage each other to work towards healthy habits every day!
- Check out our Tip Sheets for Families to help you get started
- Download and use the Live 5-2-1-0 App to set weekly goals related to healthy eating, physical activity, screen time, sleep, and more!
- Develop a family screen time plan (i.e., time limits for each family member, agree on acceptable content, determine screen free zones in the home (e.g., bedrooms, dining table), etc.)
- Prepare and eat meals together as a family
- Make water your family's drink of choice! Other healthy drink options are plain milk, or unsweetened fortified plant-based beverages (e.g. soy milk)
- Play outside together – visit a park, beach, playground, or Live 5-2-1-0 Playbox!
- Consider forming a walking or biking school bus with other families in your neighbourhood
- Grow veggies in your garden, or in containers if you’re short on outdoor space. Tips can be found in this article
