Media

The media serves as an important connector within a community, sharing information on local initiatives and events with residents.

The media can also play an important role in bringing attention to the need for changes to practices, policies, and the built environment – the wider the reach, the more demand created in communities to make changes for a healthier environment for kids. Local media – such as newspapers, radio, and television – is a key link for connecting residents together, sharing the Live 5-2-1-0 message, and helping to raise awareness of local programs and services that support children and their families to lead active, healthy lives.

What can the media sector do?

  • Share the Live 5-2-1-0 message (e.g. print, radio and online ads)
  • Distribute Live 5-2-1-0 materials at community sponsored events (e.g. Live 5-2-1-0 posters, tattoos, fact sheets, stickers)
  • Sponsor community events that promote healthy eating and physical activity (e.g. Farmer’s Market, Terry Fox Run)
  • Offer discounted ad space/free air time/printing/local news coverage for Live 5-2-1-0 messaging and/or to promote Live 5-2-1-0 related events
